Chewy Ginger Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar (plus a little more for dipping)
  • 1 egg, unbeaten
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 cup raisins

Directions

  1. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger.
  2. Cream butter. Gradually add in sugar, creaming well.
  3. Add unbeaten egg and molasses and beat well.
  4. Blend in raisins and dry ingredients (sifted together earlier). Mix.
  5. Chill dough for easier handling.
  6. Shape dough into balls using a rounded teaspoon.
  7. Dip tops into sugar and place on ungreased cookie sheet, sugar side up.
  8. Bake at 375 degrees for 9-12 minutes.
